
I am the Co-Editor and lead copywriter for The MoJo, a newsletter published twice a week through the Montecito Journal Media Group. The newsletter highlights the relevant and fun stories featured in the Montecito Journal, a local newspaper with a readership of over 30,000.
I helped create the newsletter from scratch in 2020, and built the readership from zero to over 5,300 readers — all organically.
According to MailChimp, an overall average open rate for a newsletter is 21.3%. In regards to that statistic, The MoJo averages 56%, over double that with nearly every newsletter. As for average newsletter click rates, the Mailchimp average across industries is 2.69% and we’re averaging 7.7%, nearly three times that amount.
The growing success of The MoJo has attracted brands and companies looking to reach our audience through ads and advertorials. I act as the in house copywriter, and carefully take into account the needs and wants of each brand to best promote their business.
